Greasy substances
Why are we using them?
Together with water, greasy substances form the basis of a cosmetic formula. They are responsible for the formation of an emulsion when they are brought into contact with water, for the consistency of the formula and they help to nourish and moisturise the skin.
The greasy substances in a formula are represented by greasy acids, waxes and oils of natural (vegetable or animal), synthetic or mineral origin.
The latter, derived from petrochemicals, are the most controversial today: considered to be occlusive and potentially comedogenic for the skin, they are also polluting for the environment due to their manufacturing process and their low biodegradability.
Mineral oils and waxes are found, among others, in the list of ingredients (INCI) under the names: "Mineral oil", "Paraffinum liquidum", "Petrolatum", "Cera microcristallina", "Microcrystalline wax", "Ozokerite", "Ceresine isoparaffin", "Paraffin" and "synthetic wax".
Erborian's vision
At Erborian, we prioritise the use of natural and vegetable oils in our formulas. The use of certain mineral oils, selected for their skin barrier-protecting effect, is limited to a few products in our range which are currently being reformulated as part of our continuous improvement process.
Because we remain very attentive to the evolution of the regulations in force with regard to the most controversial active ingredients as well as the latest trends in ingredients likely to replace them, we follow a process of continuous improvement in the formulation of our products. Our laboratory and our experts are committed to continuously refining our formulation expertise to bring the best of Care to our consumers. This is our Erborian "Safe & Conscious" commitment.
