Preservatives
Why are we using them?
They prevent the proliferation of micro-organisms (bacteria, moulds, yeasts) and therefore preserve and guarantee the safety of our products throughout their useful life.
Among the best known are Ethyhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Benzoate and many others.
Erborian's vision
- We choose the preservation system for each product carefully. Depending on the type of formula (cream, gel, lotion, balm etc.), our laboratory tests and integrates the most suitable preservative to preserve the quality of the product throughout its use, once opened.
- In some of our products, we find Phenoxyethanol, which is sometimes controversial for its allergenic and irritant potential (especially in children under 3 years old), and suspected endocrine disruptor. At Erborian, our experts and formulators select Phenoxyethanol according to the type of formula only when it is the most suitable preservative to effectively protect our products. It is also always dosed in our formulas at the percentage authorised by European regulations (limited to 1%) at which it presents no health risk to consumers (CSSC opinion October 2016).
Because we remain very attentive to the evolution of the regulations in force with regard to the most controversial active ingredients, as well as to the latest trends in ingredients likely to replace them, we follow a process of continuous improvement in the formulation of our products. Our laboratory and our experts are committed to continuously refining our formulation expertise to bring the best of Care to our consumers. This is our Erborian "Safe & Conscious" commitment.
