Texture agents : silicone

Why are we using them?

They promote easy blending and a pleasant sensory feel to the product upon application. They improve the texture and feel of the product on the skin, providing a soft, silky touch that is neither greasy nor sticky.

Among the most widely used touch agents, silicones are also the most controversial today.
They are synthetic ingredients, derived from silica (a major component of sand) and depending on their structure (volatile or non-volatile) can provide various effects.

In the INCI list of ingredients, silicones are identified by the suffix: -cone, -conol, -silane or -siloxane.
The use of silicones is controversial: they are considered to be occlusive or comedogenic for the skin, and accused of being polluting for the environment (as they are not very biodegradable), especially when they are used in "rinsed" products that are disposed of in the environment.
In particular, cyclotetrasiloxane (or D4) is suspected to be carcinogenic and toxic for reproduction in humans and is now prohibited by European regulations in cosmetic formulas.

Erborian's vision

- The unique sensoriality of our textures has always been as important as the proven effectiveness of our active ingredients. It is the signature of Erborian skincare.
With the help of our formulation laboratory, we are always looking for new and innovative textures for our consumers and we test a large number of textures for each new project.
In this context, the silicones used in our products (dimethicone and cyclomethicone) have been selected in accordance with the standards imposed by European regulations. This has enabled us to create a wide variety of textures: fine, non-greasy with a light and natural finish on the skin, and tested as non-comedogenic.

- We do not use D4, and we do not use silicones in our "rinsed" products in an effort to reduce environmental impact.
